SOMMET—or Storage On-line Management and Media Error
Transmission—is one of many resource management
programs included in Hitachi Storage Central, a
customizable suite of software solutions that heighten
competitiveness, increase productivity, and reduce the
total cost of computing. Designed for the Hitachi Freedom
Storage™ 5700, 5700E, and 5800 subsystems, SOMMET is
a flexible, easy-to-use configuration management tool.
With SOMMET, Hitachi Freedom 5700/5700E/5800 users can:
- Monitor and manage their storage subsystems in
multivendor environments through a graphical user
interface
- Pin-point the exact nature of a failure—all the
way down to the component level
- Initiate service quickly, if needed
- Gather performance statistics covering I/O activity,
cache data, and availability/operational information

active
- Guard against unauthorized access to administrator

HSC WATCHMAN is a Web-based, error-management
tool that lets you monitor
your Hitachi Freedom Storage
5700/5700E/5800
systems—anywhere, from any
computer, at any time.
By providing point-and-click access,
HSC WATCHMAN helps you streamline your
entire storage management process. It
automatically detects modular
component errors in storage and
notifies you of them immediately on
your browser and through worldwide e-mails.
These malfunction alerts cover
the status of disks, controllers,
batteries, fans, power supplies, and
cache memory in array units.
With HSC WATCHMAN, monitoring can be done
at the unit level or the component
level. Color-coded visual aids help
you quickly detect failures so you
continue providing users with access
to information. You can also
customize HSC WATCHMAN for viewing your
HDS configuration by geography,
division, or according to any other
standard that is meaningful to the
business.
HSC WATCHMAN can be deployed under any
platform that supports any
industry-standard Web browser.
