Multi Host Connectivity
When used with a Legacy's SCSI-to-SCSI,
SCSI-FIBRE or FIBRE-FIBRE RAID Controller(s), UDSS provides consolidated, fault tolerant
storage for up to Seven File Servers or Workstations. These servers can share a single
large volume, or an independent volume or array. This feature can also provide
safe-failover for each of the servers.
Cluster Ready -
Storage Consolidation
UDSS can be configured as an enterprise clustering
solution.
The benefits of consolidation are:
• Server Failure Protection with Alternate Data Pathing Technology
• Performance Increases with Memory Load Balancing
• Initial cost reduction of up to 60% of primary and secondary storage by sharing single raid set's parity and global hot spare disk
• Single point of management and administration.
• Minimize the service and upgrade compatibility matrix
• Supports Multiple Simultaneous Operating Systems including Windows NT/2000, Netware, OS/2, SCO Unix, Linux, BSD Unix, MAC, Sun Solaris, HP/UX, AIX, SGI IRIX, Tru64 Unix
The diagram illustrates a platform for both consolidated storage and all associated benefits, as well as a fast private network for file server fail-over.
The RAID supports up to 7 homogeneous or heterogeneous servers over Ultra160 SCSI without the requirement for a Storage Area Network. All servers are connected to a common concert of disks with a single parity drive, global hot spare drive, and 7 individual volumes. Zoning for each volume to a different server is provided by the raid controller itself.
Support for up to 64 servers are possible with the introduction of a Fibre Channel Switch. Maximum support of 256 servers can be implemented with the addition of our SAN/NAS Virtualization Engine.
